World Rugby will monitor the impact of the new rules tested at two Queensland Reds matches to increase playing time and excel in rugby union. As rugby is united in its mission to be the most advanced sport for the welfare of players, the pack of five laws was passed with welfare advancement in mind and after a year-long global testing period during which every player of all levels could play and have a say among them. The changes were decided by Super Rugby officials who manage the time elapsed when the ball is offside. The trial laws had been tested for the previous year in professional rugby and include 50:22 and goal-line abandonment, which have proven popular with fans of the sport. Following the May 2022 World Rugby Council meeting, a number of legislative changes were made. These all occur on 1. August 2022 in the United States. The five ongoing international law trials; The abandonment on the goal line, 50:22, the Jackler protection, the prohibition of pre-attached pods in open play (flying corner) and the approval of a single lacher, became a complete law and several clarifications were incorporated into the laws. Changes include time limits for using the ball on the jerk, preparation for scrum, penalties, restarts and conversions. In addition, throws that are not straight are only blown when the opposing team is competing, with only three phases for advantage and no yellow card for intentional knockdowns. Mark Harrington, Chief Player Welfare and Rugby Services Officer at World Rugby, added: „Assessing laws is an important facet of our holistic approach to reducing the risk of injury in sport, and we continuously monitor, review and develop the laws of the game with the aim of making rugby as easy and safe as possible.” We`re challenged in Australia in terms of popularity [with other codes], but they`re still sold-out stadiums [around the world]. „I would like to thank all players, coaches and health professionals at all levels for their participation and feedback on this study – your views are important to us and we will continue to consult with you as we work together to make rugby the most advanced sport for player wellbeing.

„World Rugby operates on a four-year review cycle of the law, and they say that apart from urgent player welfare issues, there will be no further legislative changes until Rugby World Cup 2023.” We saw this series as an opportunity to make the most of [the proposed rule changes] that require no fundamental changes in the game and would give the umpire some leeway,” Cordingley told AAP. „We never stand still when it comes to wellbeing, and in addition to this important work, we are close to completing a groundbreaking study into the frequency and nature of headbutts in community and elite rugby in partnership with the University of Otago and the University of Ulster, which continues the women-specific research and validation of contact training tips published last year. All of these priority areas will influence the decisions we make to promote player welfare at all levels of the game. World Rugby has confirmed that it has voted to introduce five current testing laws that will be fully operational in the sport from 1 July. Those deemed most effective by the Law Review Group were motivated by a detailed evaluation and feedback programme (including public consultations) before the closed court cases were approved in 2020, before the most effective trials led to global litigation in July 2021. World Rugby, which is fully supported by member associations, competitions and players, will continue to assess the impact of the new laws against the central objective of supporting positive welfare outcomes, including head injury prevention, as the only sport to collect and publish game-wide injury data.
