Sociology can be combined with any interdisciplinary honours bachelor`s degree program in the Faculty of Humanities and Professional Studies. Students must take at least 36 credits in sociology and at least 36 credits in the interdisciplinary program. Courses that meet the requirements of sociology also cannot be used for interdisciplinary program requirements. Students in these interdisciplinary programs must complete a total of at least 18 credits at the 4000 level, including at least six credits in sociology and six credits in the interdisciplinary program. Sociology helps explain people`s behavior, beliefs, and identity. It helps us understand organizations, economies and communities. Perhaps most importantly, sociology helps us understand ourselves.

If you are considering a professional career or a postgraduate course in sociology or social sciences, you will find a wide range of courses useful and interesting. Students preparing for careers in law, social work, health, public administration, and other professional fields can choose from many relevant content courses. Those interested in social research and policy development will benefit from courses that teach practical data collection and analysis skills. In all these courses, we encourage students to study topics from different angles. We also encourage you to read the American Sociological Association`s career-oriented resources for sociology majors. The sociology major consists of four elements that roughly correspond to the progress made during the undergraduate career: introduction; research and specialization; Advanced theory and method; and creation. During the first year, you will learn the basics of sociology and social psychology through your core modules. This is the deadline for applications that must be completed and submitted for this course. If the university or college still has vacancies, you can apply after this date, but your application is guaranteed not to be considered. Our teaching is guided by our research on real-world topics. The core modules of your first year introduce you to the breadth of sociology. They study sociology of science, communication, sexuality, health, criminology and media. The length of the course you need to take depends on your current English test scores and what you need to improve to meet our English language requirements. To be considered for the concurrent Bachelor of Education program, students must be admitted to an undergraduate program at one of York University`s other faculties, including LA&PS, and be eligible to continue there.

Subject to course exclusions, program/residency requirements, and residency requirements, the following courses are acceptable substitutes to meet the requirements of the Sociology program. Although enrolled in both faculties, the combined program of study is subject to approval by both faculties. Students pursuing their Bachelor of Education degree are also working towards a bachelor`s degree. The 4-year Honours BA provides students with more in-depth experience of sociological research and research.
